It's GivingTuesday!
Today is the day to go out and volunteer or donate in your community. Make someone smile or volunteer your time with something you feel passionate about in your community.
Figures from the 2017 Census showed that the median rent in the United States was $1,012 a month. Nationwide, homeowners average $1,492/month for housing costs, including principal, taxes, insurance, maintenance and utilities.
These costs are even more alarming when you consider that nationally, close to 30 percent of all US families earn $25,000 per year or less. The median value of a home in the US has risen to over $120,000. The Census also reports that a staggering 18 percent of renters nationwide pay more than 50 percent of their income for housing, and that the number of people paying more than 35 percent of their income for housing (in other words, living in unaffordable housing) went up 68 percent between 1990 and 2000.
This Comal County affiliate provides housing at a total cost that is $300 -$700 per month and builds homes valued at less than half of the national average. Comal County Habitat is performing a much needed service. The need for our work will only increase as housing prices continue to creep (and sometimes leap) higher.
Comal County Habitat for Humanity was incorporated in the state of Texas as a non-profit organization on July 28, 1993. It is a local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. We are recognized by the Internal Revenue Service under group exemption and assigned number 8545.
We have built 48 homes as of Summer 2020 in Comal County - all with donated funds, labor and materials. Habitat homes are not subsidized homes or promoted under any federal program. Comal County Habitat for Humanity initially holds the mortgages for completed homes. All homeowners pay an affordable loan to Habitat. Our community extends their support by volunteering and donating land, building materials/construction services, and funds.
All proceeds will be going towards Comal Habitat to help build homes. You can pick and choose the amount you would like to gift. Or make a custom amount. Any amount makes building homes a reality for families.
Crystal Moore
A leader, inventor, guide and continuous asset to Comal County Habitat for Humanity, Crystal Moore is a true pillar of our community. We thank her for her time and dedication as a member of our organization for the past 10 years and look forward to continuing to build a world where everyone has a decent place to live.

Meet our families currently working towards their forever homes.
To the left is Jade, Luke and their son Kalei. “Home to me would be feeling content, feeling worthy, feeling loved. Having a place that’s mine, that’s inviting me there where I can take off my mask and just be who I am and not have to worry about anything. And just somewhere that I feel safe,” said Jade.
The family to the right is Candice and her two sons Ryan and Rene. “To me, home is a safe place. Home is kind of like my sanctuary. Like when I’ve had a bad day or you know when I come home from work I can leave all of that behind and I can just be somewhere where I’m relaxed, where it’s peaceful. It’s a safe place,” said Candice.
